Looking for a little Inspiration for International Women’s Day 2019? Let’s look back at 2018!

On Friday, 8th March 2019, we’ll be celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2019, with our sixth annual IWD campaign. We’re inviting you to join us in celebrating the achievements of women and supporting our vital work with women across the country. The campaign will also help bring Ireland one step closer to full workplace equality. Last year, we had over 55 workplaces supporting our campaign, ranging from SMEs to state agencies and multinationals. Let’s look back at some of the event highlights from our 2018 supporters for a little inspo!

eir’s Special Recording of The Women’s Podcast by The Irish Times

International Women's Day Dublin EventsIn 2018 we collaborated with our headlines sponsor, eir and held a very special lunchtime recording of The Women’s Podcast from the Irish Times. The event was panel discussion for invited industry and media guests, and featured our founder Sonya Lennon; Carolan Lennon, then, newly appointed CEO of eir; and Gillian Harford, Head of Diversity & Inclusion with AIB.

The irrepressible Kathy Sheridan, Irish Times columnist, moderated the lively discussion. Panellists drew on their personal experiences, as well as research and highlighted the steps companies can take to make Ireland a fairer place to work.

permanent tsb’s ‘Breakfast in the Boardroom’ Panel Discussion

International Women's Day Dublin EventsLast year permanent tsb held a breakfast event and panel discussion on the morning of the 8th March, featuring Senator Lorraine Clifford Lee; Sorcha Pollack, journalist with The Irish Times; Julie O’Neill, ptsb Board Member; and Breege Timoney, ptsb MPRG Director. The discussion was moderated by Sonya Lennon and touched on topics such as the gender pay gap, the glass ceiling, unconscious bias and how we can move towards workplace equality, both on an individual and societal level. It was a great discussion, with lots of viewpoints and practical solutions on offer.

Alongside this, permanent tsb also ran a clothing drive, and the vast resulting donation was presented at the breakfast event. We needed a bigger car leaving!

AIB’s ‘Dressing for Success’ Masterclass

Last year, AIB hosted a number of activities throughout the day in support of our campaign and celebrating the women on their staff. They invited Sonya Lennon to run a masterclass with their employees on “Photographing Confidently and Dressing for Success”, followed by corporate headshot sittings for attendees. AIB also very generously ran a clothing collection, set up in their Ballsbridge HQ alongside an information stand with Dress for Success Dublin representatives on hand to inform staff about our work.
