Joi Gordon meets Tánaiste Joan Burton, Dress for Success Dublin Founder Sonya Lennon, and leading businesswoman Norah Casey
We were honoured to host a visit by the worldwide CEO of Dress for Success recently. Joi Gordon is an inspirational woman, who has been involved in Dress for Success in New York since the 1990s. She has served as CEO of the worldwide organisation since 1999.
Joi visited Dublin in September, accompanied by her colleague, Liz Carey, Chief Affiliate Growth and Sustainability Officer with Dress for Success Worldwide.
During their visit, Joi and Liz held a lunchtime meet-and-greet with some of our board members, staff and corporate supporters. We then whisked Joi away to The Irish Times, where she recorded an interview for The Women’s Podcast, alongside our founder, Sonya Lennon.
The following day, Joi and Liz were back in our offices to meet some of the women who use our services, as well as some of our volunteers. As a very special (and last-minute!) surprise, they were joined by An Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton TD, and Norah Casey, one of Ireland’s leading businesswomen.
During a fascinating afternoon, those present had the chance to pick the brains of these high-achieving women and hear their stories about their own paths to success. It was particularly interesting to hear An Tánaiste and Norah Casey speak about how, as women and despite their multiple achievements, they are still frequently judged more by how they look than by what they do.
The visit of the Worldwide guests was a great success, and an important opportunity for us to showcase what is being achieved here at Dress for Success Dublin. It also gave us a great chance to learn from the Worldwide team and hear about the activities and services being provided by other Dress for Success affiliate organisations around the world.
